This year we are going to reinstate the Heather Farr Blind Golf Championship. The tournament was Joe’s dream and for two years now we have drifted from that dream. My family and I want to get his dream back on track. Though most of you did not know Joe in his prime, he was an amazing man.
The 2018 Leader Dogs Classic and Heather Farr Blind Golf Championship will take place on 9 -11 April 2018 in Scottsdale Arizona. We WELCOME USBGA members as well as well as all ABG, Canadian, British, Irish Japanese, and European blind golfers. We require an official handicap from each golfer (IBGA or USGA) and all golfers are required to provide their own coach/guide.
If this is your first time to play in the Classic, you and your coach will fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. You can either rent an automobile or you can take Super Shuttle from Sky Harbor Airport to the Hotel. There are two ways to make advance reservations with Super Shuttle either by calling 800-258-3826, or going on the web at www.supershuttle.com. Although reservations are suggested they are not required. You can go to a van transportation area after you arrive at the airport and speak with a Super Shuttle representative. It will cost approximately $40.00 for the first person and less for additional passengers going to the same location.
The tournament will provide lodging for the blind and visually impaired golfers and their coaches for the nights of Sunday – Wednesday, 8 - 11 April. The name of the hotel will be provided before the tournament. If you plan to come earlier or stay later, you will be responsible for the extra nights. When I receive your registration, I will reserve your room. Be sure to let me know if you want additional nights.
The Heather Farr Blind Tournament will be played on Tuesday 10 April and Wednesday 11 April. The Blind Golf Championship will be played at Moon Valley Country Club, 151 West Moon Valley Drive, Phoenix, Arizona 85023. A list of the pairings and tee times will be in the tournament information packet given to you when you check into the hotel.
The entry fee for blind and visually impaired golfers is $100.00. All blind and visually impaired golfers MUST provide his/her own coach/guide.
Trophies for the Championship will be awarded at a bar-b-q, at my home, following the final round of the tournament. Joe believed that when a round of golf is in the books it is “time for laughin’ and scratchin’ and tellin’ lies.” Since we had such a great time last year doing just that we are making the bar-b-q an annual event.
In 2018, the Charity Scramble will be played on Monday 9 April 2018 at Troon North Golf Club. 10320 E Dynamite Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85262, (480) 585-5300 (www.troonnorthgolf.com). This event will have a noon Shotgun Start with registration at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the scramble there will be a casual dinner and silent auction. The Charity Scramble and the auction benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind.
We play according to International Blind Golf Association (IBGA) and United State Golf Association (USGA) rules of golf.
Looking forward to seeing you at the golf course and I hope we will get some time to sit and visit.
